General

The 12th International César Franck Competition will take place on

September 25, 27 and 29, 2007

in the RC Cathedral and Basilica of St. Bavo in Haarlem, The Netherlands, on the Willibrordus-organ (Adema, 1923/1949/1971/1978 81/IV/P).

Theme: César Franck & Jehan Alain

Participation is open for organists who obtained a bachelor degree or comparable level of education at a conservatory or music college.

Program

The competition consist of three round:

For the1st round on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 the compulsatory works are:
  • César Franck: Pastorale from the Six Pièces
  • Jehan Alain: Intermezzo (éd. Leduc)
For the 2nd round on Thursday September 27, 2007 the compulsory works are:
  • César Franck: Final from the Six Pièces
  • Jehan Alain: Première Fantaisie (éd. Leduc)
  • Jehan Alain: Deuxième Fantaisie (éd. Leduc)
For the Final on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 15.00 hrs the candidates have to prepare a program that contains
  • César Franck: Trois Chorals
  • Jehan Alain: Scherzo (from the Suite pour orgue, éd. Leduc)
  • Jehan Alain: Deuils (from the Trois Danses, éd. Leduc)
After the second round the jury will make choice form these pieces to compose the program for the final round.

On Friday, September 28, 2007 at 20.15 hrs a recital will be given by the members of the jury on the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Philharmonie, the concert hall of the town of Haarlem.

Jury

The jury consists of:
  • Marie-Claire ALAIN (Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France)
  • David SANGER (Embleton, UK)
  • Ton van ECK (Haarlem, The Nederlands)

Participation

Candidates are expected to send in before June 1, 2007 a cassette tape, MiniDisk, CD-R or DAT with a live recording of the Pièce Héroïque by César Franck to give proof of their ability.

The recording has to be sent to:
Secretary of the Internationaal César Franckconcours, Leidsevaart 146, 2014 HE, HAARLEM (The Netherlands).

The recordings will be evaluated by a professional team. Depending on the quality, a maximum of 10 candidates will be invited to participate in the first round on September 25, 2007.

The results will be published before July 1, 2007.

Prizes

Three prizes will be awarded:
  • A first prize of € 2.000,-
  • A second prize of € 1.500,-
  • A third prize of € 1.000,-
In addition an Audience prize of € 500,- will be available.

Finalistes will be invited to give a recital in the series at Saturday afternoon in
St.-Bavo's Cathedral and Basilica. The winner of the first prize will also be invited to give a recital in the Cathedral Notre-Dame in Chartres (France).

Registration Fee

Selected candidates have to pay a fee of € 50,- by bank transfer before August 1, 2007 without any charges for the receiver on account nr. 844480215 of Internationaal Cesar Franck Concours, Santpoorterstraat 10, 2023 DC Haarlem, at Fortis Bank, Haarlem, (IBAN: NL65 FTSB 0844 4802 15, SWIFT or BIC: FTSBNL2BR).
